For Those Who Want More From Home
Built Around Life, Not Added to a Yard.
There is a certain kind of homeowner who has done the work. The home they wanted. The kitchen, the outdoor kitchen, maybe the pool. They have built a life that reflects who they are and they are still looking for the thing that makes the backyard feel complete. Not another amenity. Something alive. Something that changes how the whole property feels from the moment you step outside.
That is what a Signature swim pond delivers. Not a feature you add to a yard, but an environment you build your life around. Still water in the morning. The sound of a waterfall when you open the door. A place where your kids stop wanting to be anywhere else. A backyard that guests remember long after they leave.
Hoaglandscape Signature is our most considered offering. It is for homeowners who are not looking for the fastest or the cheapest option. They are looking for the right one.
Thinking About a Pool Instead?
The honest comparison is worth reading.
Most swim pond buyers spend two to three years wondering whether this is the right call. We have written the definitive comparison: build cost, 20-year running costs, maintenance hours, and three situations where a conventional pool actually wins. No sales pitch. Just the numbers.
Common Questions
What People Ask Before They Call
Not to build. Build ranges overlap significantly. Most Signature swim ponds begin at $85,000, which is comparable to a quality gunite pool. The difference shows up over time. Running costs are substantially lower with no chemicals, no resurfacing cycle, and lower electricity. Over 20 years, the gap in favor of a swim pond is typically significant.
No. The regeneration zone cleans the water biologically through aquatic plants and beneficial bacteria. There is no chlorine, no salt system, no shock. The water is clean because the ecosystem is healthy, not because it has been treated.
Less than a conventional pool. The primary work is a spring cleanout, which most Signature clients hand off to the stewardship team. Through the season, a skimmer basket empties and plants get trimmed occasionally. There are no weekly chemistry obligations.
Realistically, May through October is the comfortable swimming season in the Charlotte area. The pond runs beautifully year-round and stays visually stunning in winter. Heating is possible but works against the biology, so most clients choose not to heat.
The swim zone plus a regeneration zone, plus setbacks, requires a meaningful footprint. We assess every site before quoting anything. If your lot is tight, we will tell you honestly whether a Signature pond is the right fit or whether a different water feature serves you better.
Most Signature builds complete in two to four weeks once on-site work begins. The design and planning phase that precedes it is where the time is best spent. Homeowners who start the design conversation in fall or winter tend to have the most flexibility for spring scheduling.
Brian Hoagland leads every Signature commission personally. He is on-site throughout the build. When you call or fill out the form, you are reaching Brian directly.
Built for People Like You
Who Builds a Signature Pond.
The Entertainer
The backyard is an extension of how they host. They want something that makes guests stop talking when they walk outside. Something that creates a mood, a memory, a reason to come back. The swim pond is the centerpiece of an outdoor living space that reflects the care they put into everything else.
The Family
Kids are the whole point. They want a backyard that competes with anywhere else their teenagers might want to be on a Saturday. They want swimming that does not feel like a chore. They want the house to be the house everyone wants to come to.
The Early Morning Swimmer
They swim, or they want to. They are looking for something meditative, private, and effortless: a body of water that is theirs, that does not smell like chlorine, that requires nothing from them except showing up. Once they discover swim ponds, they cannot stop thinking about it.
The Signature Experience
From First Conversation to First Swim
The Consultation
This is not an estimate. It is a listening session. We come to your property, walk your land, and spend time understanding how you live: what draws you outside, what keeps you in, what you have always imagined but never quite found. No clipboard. No rush. Just a genuine conversation between you and someone who has built dozens of ponds in the Charlotte region.
The Design
Your property is not like anyone else's and neither is your pond. We do not work from templates. Every Signature pond is conceived for its specific site: the slope of the land, the movement of afternoon light, the sight lines from inside the house. What comes back to you is not a quote. It is a vision, put to paper, with your name on it.
The Build
As an Aquascape Master Certified Contractor, a credential held by a very small percentage of water feature professionals in the country, we bring technical precision to every build that most homeowners never have to think about. You will not have to. What you will have is a clear timeline, consistent communication, and no surprises.
The Handoff
The day your pond is complete is not the end of the relationship. It is the beginning of it. We walk you through everything: how the system works, what to watch for, what your pond will look like through each season. You will leave with a care guide written for your specific build, not a generic pamphlet.
The Stewardship
Your pond was built to be effortless. Our Signature Stewardship Program makes sure it stays that way. Seasonal care, water quality monitoring, aquatic plant management, and priority response, handled by the same team that built it.

A Conversation About Investment
Honest About What This Costs. And What It Returns.
Hoaglandscape Signature swim ponds represent a meaningful investment in your property and your life. Most Signature commissions begin at $85,000 and often exceed that depending on scope, site complexity, and design. We do not publish a price sheet because no two ponds are the same, and because the right conversation about investment happens in person, once we understand your vision.
What we can tell you is this: our clients consistently find that the value of what they built exceeds what they paid for it. Not just in property terms, though a Signature pond does add meaningful value to a home. In daily use. In how the property feels. In what it means to their family year after year.
If you have been thinking about this for a while and are not sure whether it is within reach, the best thing to do is have the conversation. We will be honest with you about what makes sense for your property and your goals.
Signature commissions begin at $85,000. Many exceed this depending on scope, site, and design complexity.

What Clients Say
The People Who Have Done This
“Brian and his crew were efficient, professional and knowledgeable. We decided to enhance the area with additional water design. It was a fairly small area to work in, but Brian had a vision and what a difference it made to our yard. We especially loved his quick response to phone calls and great communication during the project.”
Nancy Robel, Charlotte
“Brian designed a beautiful pondless waterfall which is the focal point of the back yard. Brian and his team show up on time and work hard to produce a fantastic outcome. They have been very responsive whenever I have had questions or concerns and have rectified any problems I have had. I heartily recommend them.”
Kathe Allison, Charlotte
“Brian knew exactly what I needed. He communicated clearly each step along the way towards completion of the job. His crew was experienced and efficient, very knowledgeable and happy to answer my questions. They also left the job site clean each day before leaving my home.”
